Essential oils are wonderful aren't they? Aromatic, invigorating, calming, healing. We've been using them in our little home for years. In the bath, in potions and cleaning products. Their uses are endless. But what if you want to enjoy the wonderful aromas of essential oils, but don't have the funds to splash out on a diffuser right now?
Panic not! I'm going to teach you how to diffuse essential oils without a diffuser, and the results are pretty fantastic. Essential oils are not cheap anyway, and if you are just learning about them, the ideas in this post will really help you.
Luckily, there are a whole lot of ways you can get the benefits of essential oils, and I'll show you 15 cool ideas for a homemade diffuser. There are many ways to do this, from the very simple (which we'll be discussing here) to the very elaborate. There are many ways to disperse the oil fragrance. Here are some of the most common DIY diffuser methods, all are super easy to set up.
1. Use A Cotton Ball Or Two
Grab a cotton ball from your makeup bag, or pick some up from Amazon like this 3 pack of organic cotton balls. Simply place a few drops of essential oil on a cotton ball, then place it in front of a source or air flow. In your car this could be in front of a vent, at home, in front of a blow fan or if you have air ventilation under your floor, a cotton ball or two on top of the floorboard vent will get those essential oil particles blown into the air.
2. The Tissue Method
Sprinkling your fave oils onto a tissue or a hankerchief, naptin or towel, and either handing it near a source of moving air works great. Alternatively, laying it on your pillow or on your headboard can be great for improving your sleep. Lavender is great at night and really aids restful sleep.
3. Use A Spray Bottle
I love this method, it's so simple and is a great way to get those diffused oils into the air where you need them. Add a few drops of your chosen oil to a spray bottle, top up with water, give it a shake and you're ready to go. This also works well as a DIY essential oil air freshener.

4. Wool Dryer Balls
Not so much a diffuser for use in the room, although you certainly could use these in place or tissues or cotton balls. Wool dryer balls are sheeps wool balls (you can also get Alpaca ones) that you add a little essential oil to and toss into the clothes drying machine, to impart some wonderful aromas to your clothes.

5. In The Bathtub
Adding a few drops of oil to a hot bath is an excellent way to unwind. The oils are released into the air as they combine with steam, creating a wonderful smell, and allowing you to breathe them in. They'll also leave your skin soft and nourished.
6. On The Stove
Add a few drops of oil to a pan of hot water simmering on the stove. This is a great way to diffuse the oils into the air, be careful not to leave the pan to boil dry (this is the bane of my wife's life when I steam vegetables!)

Grab a square of scrap fabric, place a tablespoon of dry rice in the center. Add a few drops of your fave essential oil to the rice, before bunching up the corners and sides of the fabric and tying with a ribbon or elastic band. You'll end up with a nice little bundle of aromatic delight that you can place in a clothes draw or leave in the room. Placing on or near a radiator (not somewhere the bundle could combust) is a nice way to speed up the diffusion as the oils are heated.
8. Make A Reed Diffuser
Reeds are an awesome way to diffuse essential oils. Simple to use, cheap, and they add a certain modern flair to any room.

Add a couple of drops the the filter every 2nd or 3rd day to keep your home fragrant. This method really is awesome to get the fragrance around your entire home,
11. Bath Bombs
You can make your own bath bombs do deliver your essential oils directly into your bathtub.
If you're kinda lazy, then a bath bomb making kit like this one will do the trick. This kit comes with essential oils included, but you could swap out for your favorites if you wanted to.

12. Scent Some Pine Cones
Pinecones soak up those fragrant oils amazingly. Simple add a few drops of your top essential oils to a pine cone or two, and leave then in a bowl with others in the room. The cones will slowly release the fragrance over time. Great to use at Christmas for that festive look.
